Expectations; the Engine of Every Outcome

by Coach B

In my E4P framework—Expectations, Preparation, Patience, Persistence, and Performance—everything begins with Expectations. They’re the spark that ignites every other step. How we expect things to unfold shapes how we prepare, how patient we are, how we persist, and how we perform. If the foundation is built on belief and clarity, the rest of the process naturally falls into alignment.

Today I’m talking about expectations—because to me, they’re the key to everything that happens in our future.

Whether it’s business or personal (and honestly, I believe all business is personal—I just don’t take it personally), what I expect almost always shapes what I experience.

When I start an endeavor with dread, anxiety, discouragement, or frustration, those feelings tend to show up in my results. It’s not just that they affect my prospects—they also affect my process.

After expectations, process is the next key that determines how successful we’ll be in any journey. Expectations help you build a successful process. Because you expect success and positive outcomes, you naturally set out to make the pathway as clear and efficient as possible. We start looking for ways to guarantee that our expectation of success becomes a reality. We can only build ourselves the best path to our goals when we have a clear vision of where we’re headed before we begin—like taking a trip, we wouldn’t depart without being sure of our destination. Our business and life goals must be directed the same way: with intention, direction, and clarity.

If I believe I’ll be successful, I naturally begin to act like it. I’m willing to put in the work, make sacrifices, and stay consistent even when I can’t yet see the outcome. My belief and expectation create a vision and clarity that guide me through the grind—until what I once felt inside becomes visible on the outside.

Expectations set the tone. Process brings them to life. Together, they create the results we live.
